As a shockingly ill prepared big sister with only a small present to give I decided that I should lay on the effort to make the place look a little more birthday'ish for Kate.
The day involved getting up - having my hair cut (trying to avoid hysterics as I watched my precious locks end up on the floor) getting back home, making meringues - which were delicious!! Followed by a trip to Tesco to buy some decorations.
List included: balloons, party streamers, party hats, colourful napkins, strings of stars, pretty ribbon, a can of silly string, a birthday banner and some flowers.
I then lovingly spent the whole afternoon moving crap round to try and make the room look tidier (this didn't turn out into full blown cleaning much as Mum would've loved it to) blowing up balloons, pinning banners in place, hanging star decorations, by which time I'd decided that I absolutely NEEDED more stars, so a second trip to Tesco and then back to work. By the time I finished and thrown paper streamers everywhere I had, I think, managed to make the place look fit for a carnival!
We picked up Nan and a Chinese takeaway, the neighbours came round and we absolutely demolished the lot, slowing down noticeable after the meringues. Another viewing of Year One followed dinner, it was my second time, Mike's fifth and Kate's first, I fell asleep halfway through and had to watch the rest later. Lightweight.
