After overshooting the state of Goa and heading up the coast towards Mumbai we realised our mistake and got off at a sleepy station somewhere in Maharashtra and cooled our heels drinking gin from Jess' backpack and lemonade from the station shop, this pretty much set the mood for our three week stay in Goa.

When we did eventually make it back to the correct station we got off, had some bhel puri and got on a bus to Anjuna, a old hippy outpost. We walked along the beach looking for some cocohuts which we eventually found.

After depositing our bags in the hut which was surprisingly well put together and even plumbed! I had a much needed shower and Djalma went for a dip in the sea. We got a few cheap beers and sat watching the sea before heading across the beach for a little but tasty steak burger and a very disappointing (tomato ketchup) pork vindaloo.
The next day Jess and I were up at 6am and went out on the beach to do some yoga and for a little swim in the sea where we saw the most incredible sunrise. A couple of guys, one of whom claimed to be a photographer approached us to take some pictures, we were doing yoga and said no, so he waited for us to come out of the water (we went for a little swim too cool off after) and then asked 'at least now can I take some photos?' Jess retorted 'absolutely not' and we took our soggy selves back to bed. After a lot of lazing about and not much eating we walked along to a restaurant which was putting on it's weekly seafood buffet. I hung round the table while the dishes were being put out like a lovesick teenager but consequently was one of the first in line to pile my plate with fried calamari, crab, fish curry, salad and poppadoms. We all ate ourselves silly, it was delicious food - much much better than we were expecting, but because it was seafood we didn't feel overstuffed for long, quite healthy for a binge actually.

The next night was FRIDAY and we got dressed up and walked round the coast to Baga, famous for its trance scene. We found a place where the cocktails were buy one get one free and after a sip of my peach bellini I decided that it was time to get a dress for the evening, Jess and I already tipsy on our free shot and a whiff of bubbles staggered round the shops trying to bargain with a straight face, it was hilarious, easily the most fun I've ever had when shopping. I made my purchase – a black and white dress that I wouldn't be able to wear outside of Goa or somewhere equally relaxed (and warm) – got changed into it and sauntered back to our restaurant for the rest of my cocktail. We all had burgers with extra garlic and moved onto Long Island Iced Teas, which got us girls in the mood rather nicely for dancing but the boys needed a little more so we got a bottle of dark rum and some coke and went and sat on the beach drinking and talking to the vendors who were selling Halloween style things. We walked back into town, I think back to the same place and boogied the night away. Unfortunately Jess' camera was nicked at a later point so we don't have any pictures from that or any night out in Goa.
After a taxi ride back to Anjuna, during which no-one vomited, we all fell asleep and slept for most of the day rolling out of bed only for food and to watch Avatar in the evening before going back to bed again.
We had decided to pack and go the following day and so we bundled into a taxi and left loud trance-heavy Anjuna for Palolem. We stopped off along the way for one of Djalma's rabies jab and for Jess to get her dressing changed from the infected pus filled mosquito bites on her legs. That done we got three buses to Palolem a quieter, longer and very English beach further south from Anjuna.
