16th - 19th November 2011
Well, it's now well into December and I'm feeling all Christmassy and stuff and I guess I don't really feel like writing about Vietnam, seeing as I didn't like it all that much.
So Cat Ba Island, it was okay, some okay beaches, excellent climbing for Djalma – he went twice the first time I didn't join the group – Charlie and Kat from the UK on a year work, Claude from Luxembourg, Gordon from the US (a good part we were reassured) and two more English people, Jo and Simon. I met them after their day of fun and we had dinner together.
The next day Djalma managed to get me along for a reduced rate that we could actually afford and I took photos of the guys climbing. I'll be honest, climbing doesn't really rock my world and if you're not doing something it's difficult to have much appreciation for what people are doing... I was a little bored.
We decided to get going the following day and after being threatened with a knife by the proprietor of the ticket shop, we got our two tickets to Hanoi.
Here's a tip – don't shout at people in Vietnam unless you're prepared to kick some ass, or have yours kicked.
The boat made it's way through Halong Bay, very beautiful, blah blah blah, we got a bus to Hanoi and got ourselves a cheap hotel on the top floor.
